Numerical Methods for Addressing Geometrically Complex Systems

ICSE is working on a Cartesian cut cell method to model complex geometry on a structured mesh without losing detailed boundary information. This method replaces traditional stair-stepping, body fitted, or unstructured methods. We are applying the cut-cell method to problems with stationary geometry, such as flows over cylinders, to more complex moving geometry problems, such as a stirred, reacting mixing tank.
