ICSE Research

Combustion and related energy generation activities affect our quality of life directly through the cost and availability of power and indirectly through their impact on health and the environment. Combustion, energy generation, the transport and transformation of combustion emissions in the environment, and associated health and environmental impacts are highly complex issues. ICSE researchers are applying a multidisciplinary approach to solving combustion and energy-related problems. Our research focuses on the following areas:

Fires and explosions
Aerosol formation
Black liquor gasification
Coal- and natural-gas-fired boilers
Glass-melting furnaces
Spreader stoker-fired combustors
Diesel and gas-turbine engines
Air toxics
Ultra-Clean Coal Utilization
flares
process heaters and cracking furnaces
mixing tanks
