Biographical Sketch:
Prof. Whitty has over 20 years experience researching fundamental and applied aspects of advanced energy technologies, including combustion and gasification of fossil and renewable fuels. Prior to joining the University of Utah in 2001, he spent several years in industry, managing research projects and directing pilot operations for new thermochemical conversion technologies. This experience helped shape his research philosophy, which focuses on bridging the gap between fundamental understanding acquired from lab-scale experiments and pilot-scale research which often does not permit detailed sampling and analysis. He has designed several research systems ranging from 300 kW to 4 MW, including two 1 ton/day gasifiers at the University of Utah. Dr. Whitty has been Principal Investigator of more than twenty government and industry sponsored programs and has published over 20 papers relating to energy technology research.Publications
