Biographical Sketch:
Eric G. Eddings is a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Utah and serves as Experimental Lead in the Institute for Clean and Secure Energy, with responsibility over two laboratory sites, including the 20,000 sq. ft. Industrial Combustion and Gasification Research Facility. The ICGRF houses a wide variety of pilot-scale combustion facilities for use in process evaluation, model validation and technology development. His recent research includes: oxy-coal combustion to facilitate CO2 capture; biomass pyrolysis for the production of transportation fuels; underground thermal treatment of coal for the production of gaseous and liquid fuels; bench- and pilot-scale experimental investigations of pollutant formation and control from coal and other solid and liquid fuels; and the development of detailed kinetic mechanisms for complex hydrocarbon mixtures.
Prior to joining the University of Utah, Eric spent six years with Reaction Engineering International (REI), a consulting/R&D firm, in a variety of technical and managerial positions, eventually serving as a Vice President. Eric also spent five years at Unisys Corporation prior to graduate school in the manufacture of multi-layer printed circuit boards. He has consulted for a variety of industries including work with fossil-fuel-fired utility boilers, copper smelters, cement kilns, waste incinerators, steel-making processes and chemical process heaters.
