Dr. Jennifer P. Spinti

Research Assoc. Professor, Chemical Engineering

B.S. Chemistry, Brigham Young University, 1987
Ph.D. Chemical Engineering, University of Utah, 1997

Biographical Sketch:

Jennifer graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from Brigham Young University in 1987 and went to work for Phillips 66 Company at their specialty chemicals plant in Borger, TX. In 1992, she returned to graduate school in chemical engineering at the University of Utah. Her thesis work with Dr. David W. Pershing was in experimental coal combustion, specifically looking at the fate of nitrogen in the coal matrix during high-temperature pulverized coal combustion. Jennifer graduated in 1997 and began a post-doctoral position with the Center for Accidental Fires and Explosions (C-SAFE) at the University of Utah in early 1998. In C-SAFE, she worked with Dr. Philip J. Smith in the area of large eddy simulation of buoyancy-driven flows such as liquid fuel pool fires. In 2007, Jennifer began working with the Utah Heavy Oil Program, specifically focusing on oil shale and oil sands development in Utah. She currently manages the unconventional fuels program in ICSE and is working on simulations of oxy-gas combustion.

notes: Jennifer currently resides in Flagstaff, AZ, but is a frequent visitor to the Salt Lake area and to the areas of oil shale and oil sands development in eastern Utah.
